Hundreds of people hoping to make the cut lined up Sunday outside the Apollo Theater in Harlem as the famed venue held open auditions for its popular live show "Amateur Night."

A line of singers, dancers, comedians and musicians of all ages and skill levels stretched for blocks. Some of the hopefuls even wrapped themselves up in blankets so they could sleep on the sidewalk overnight.

"We run the gamet from drummers to steppers, to dance crews to solo dance, we have classical dance we have hip hop dance and street dancers we have sometimes comedians we have contortionists, so everyone comes here," said Apollo "Amateur Night" Executive Producer Marion Caffey.

"I did it, I got the chance the opportunity to sing for these people and you know if Apollo isn't in my immediate future maybe it might be in my distant future," said one "Amateur Night" hopeful.

"Just relaxing right now, waiting for the call, I have my phone on to the high volume you know," said another.

Only the first 300 acts were expected to be seen throughout the course of the day.

Each contestant gets a mere 90 seconds to show what they've got.

A new grand prize of $10,000 has been established for the 2010 season.
