Edward Cardinal Egan received a very special honor at a Greenwich Village Catholic school Friday.

The cardinal dedicated and blessed the the Academy of Saint Joseph's new library, which was named for him.

He also celebrated Mass with the students.

Egan founded the academy in 2007.

"You saw the children, how beautifully they read, how beautifully they recite poetry and how beautifully behaved they are," said Egan. "And their moms and dads were there, and their grandmas and granddads too, and they were with the wonderful teachers that they have."

"My son was probably a little nervous but he was also excited. They've been preparing for this for a while, so I think they enjoyed him," said parent Miriam Weisbecker.

"It will be an important event in their life and in helping shape their values," said parent Gerard Rem.

The academy, which Egan founded in 2007, offers education from pre-kindergarten through second grade, and plans to add an additional grade each school year up through eighth grade.
