Some city high school teams are moving onto the finals in the FIRST Robotic League.

The Fe (Iron) Maidens from the Bronx High School of Science, Stuypulse from Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, Tech Knows of Staten Island Technical High School, and The Mary Louis Academy team will go to the national finals in Atlanta next month.

More than 60 teams from across the country took part Sunday in the FIRST Robotic League regional finals at the Javits Center.

Students were given the rules for the competition and a box full of materials in January and worked nonstop since then to build their robots.

"We learned about public relations, we learned about being as a team, working together. And it's absolutely an amazing experience and it's life-changing," said one participant.

"Well, FIRST was created to convince kids -- all kids -- particularly women and minorities that typically in this country think science and engineering and technology isn't for them -- that in fact it is," said FIRST founder Dean Kamen.

A total of 46 regional competitions are taking place around the country this month.
