As Fashion Week gears up under the tents at Bryant Park, designer Rachel Roy is taking NY1 behind the scenes as she prepares to present her Fall 2010 collection.

Rachel Roy is putting the final touches on her Fall 2010 designer collection. This season, her designs are inspired by the versatility of a collage with pieces that mix elements inspired by Egyptian Art.

"Overall what I'm looking to tell and the point of view or story I'm trying to tell women is that you can be strong and creative, yet be feminine at the same time and still in control of your destiny," Roy explained.

Strong, creative women are always the driving force behind Roy's designs. Those inspirations take form in pieces that can easily go from a day at the office to a cocktail party after work.

But the designer collection isn't the only project up Roy's sleeve. Her Rachel Rachel Roy collection at Macy's gives younger shoppers the opportunity to dress with elegance and confidence at reasonable prices.

"I have always wanted to design for a younger woman and for the woman I used to be. I used to be a Macy's shopper growing up so to have this business with Macy's is thrilling for me," Roy said.

Both lines embody the same belief -- strength and independence never go out of style. Off the runway, she's busy spreading the same message through a collaboration with Fairwinds Trading, an organization that aims to create jobs for women in Africa.

"They're all women who've been affected by the war. They have either lost their husband or been raped and or lost their homes and my goal is to employ them the same way I would employ a factory or printmaker or someone that designs fabric for me. So my goal is to help as many women as possible be self sufficient through employment," Roy said.

With the fall 2010 collection under her belt, Roy promises to keep the fashion world and its consumers inspired for years to come.
