The city's building codes could soon be going green.

A task force charged with finding ways to make the city's construction laws more environmentally-friendly released a report yesterday that includes more than 100 recommendations.

One calls for allowing New Yorkers to have control over the heat in their apartments. Another would require stores to shut off their lights when they are closed.

"Collectively these would cause major improvements in energy and water efficiency, health, lower costs, and really enshrine New York's place as a green building leader,” said Russell Unger of the Urban Green Council.

The task force was convened at the request of Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

They are reviewing the report.
