An citywide food relief program is creating emergency packets in Brooklyn for 17,000 elderly New Yorkers before winter sets in.

Each emergency food package contains 20 pounds of food, or 12 meals of staples like tuna, vegetables, juices, crackers, hot chocolate, oatmeal and apple sauce.

The packages are put together by an assembly line of workers and will be delivered to recipients by UPS next month.

"We have an excellent crew that works year-round to pack these emergency holiday and weekend boxes for the needy senior citizens of New York," said warehouse worker Magda Ortiz.

Citymeals officials say the boxes will ensure that its clients will have enough food in the event of blizzards, ice storms, or other emergencies.
