Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy has been hospitalized today after suffering stroke-like symptoms.
Kennedy was taken to the hospital Saturday morning in Boston.
A senior Democratic official told the New York Times that the senator was taken by ambulance to a Cape Cod hospital after he became ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, Massachusetts. He was then evaluated and taken by helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital.
There is no immediate word on his condition.
In a released statement, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said, "Obviously, my thoughts and prayers are with Teddy. He is one of my favorite people."
Kennedy endorsed Obama's presidential campaign in late January.
The 76-year-old has been serving in the Senate since 1962, when he won an election to complete the term originally won by his brother-turned-president, John F. Kennedy.
