A teenager was killed and another man injured in an accident in the waters off Queens Sunday.

Investigators say 18-year-old Mario Acatitla of Brooklyn was fishing with his cousin in waist-high water in Jamaica Bay near the North Channel Bridge when strong waves knocked him off his feet and pulled him out into deeper water.

Authorities say his cousin tried to help him, but was also pulled under.

A Good Samaritan raced into the water to try and help save the men.

"I saw four fishermen next to them and they were asking for help and I heard them in Spanish also," said Ceasar Meneses, who helped with the rescue. "So I took off my clothes and I went to the water with my son and I told my wife to call 911. I got one person out."

"It was crazy because I was witnessing someone dying and I couldn't help them," said another swimmer. "It was crazy."

Officials say the bay floor is not level, and that there are areas where it can quickly go from three feet to 13-feet deep.

"If you are a fisherman and you don't know the water or you are not an advanced swimmer, than you should be extremely careful in this area," said FDNY Deputy Chief Bob Mays.

Dive crews recovered the teen's body. The other man has been hospitalized in stable condition.
