The cast of Broadway's "Phantom of the Opera" took to the stage Wednesday for an historic 9,000th performance.
Renowned composer Andrew Lloyd Webber surprised the audience with an appearance after the matinee show. "Phantom of the Opera" is the longest running show on Broadway after 21 years.
"Nine thousand performances of basically a full audience having a great time. That's a live theater dream and it's that kind of a thrill every night," said original cast member George Lee.
Webber announced plans for a sequel called "Phantom 2: Love Never Dies." The show will take a look at the characters lives 10 years later.
The show is set to open in London next spring and in New York next fall.
