Dozens of musicians filled Grand Central Terminal yesterday to vie for a spot in the subway.
Performers came out for the annual auditions for the city's Music Under New York program.
Each performer was given five minutes on stage.
Performers say the program is a great opportunity to get exposure.
"In the current economy it's getting harder and harder and there are going to be more and more people wanting to make some money performing on the subway," said one performer. "So, logically, this year seemed the year that I should go and get a permit."
The more than 100 members of the program receive a permit to perform in the subway system year-round.
