A Manhattan toddler is safe and sound after taking a wild solo subway ride Monday. NY1's Taunia Hottman filed the following report. With her son in tow, Griselda Sosa went to get coffee at a corner bodega in Marble Hill on Monday. In the instant she went through the door, she turned around and the 5-year-old was gone.
"I don't see my child anymore. I went to the bus station and look I went around the place," said Sosa.
Thinking there was no way the little boy could have scaled the steps to the 225th Street station, she frantically called police. They put out an alert, but it wasn't until about 8:40 p.m., an hour after he disappeared, that a transit employee spotted him.
Investigators say he had boarded the 1 train and rode all 34 stops to the South Ferry station.
"He came back happy. When he saw me, he was very happy," said Sosa.
Sosa says her son has a lot of energy As clear as that may be, it is a mystery what exactly happened during his trans-Manhattan adventure. She says as scary as it was, she thanks the observant transit worker and officers for their quick work in bringing him home.
"I give thanks to God and I give thanks to the police cause they do good job," said Sosa.
