A new online tool will allow parents to follow their children's academic progress.

Instructions on how to use the Achievement Reporting and Innovation System, or ARIS, will be sent home to parents within the next couple of weeks, according to Schools Chancellor Joel Klein.

Parents will be able to view their child's current class grades, and attendance for the last three years.

Scores on state exams will also be available.

"In terms of information that parents will now have about their children, you look around the country I don't think there's any place else where a parent will be able to have so much information about their children, their academic performance and how you can use that," said Klein in Astoria, Queens today. "So parents can work more closely with our teachers so they can talk about their children's progress and also work with their children at home."

ARIS will also allow parents to find out how their children's school compares to others in the city.
