Police are investigating whether two young men may have planted the small explosive device that rattled an Upper East Side Starbucks Coffee yesterday morning.
The explosion around 3:30 a.m. blew out windows at the coffee shop on Third Avenue at 92nd Street. No injuries were reported.
Several witnesses told police they saw two young men running away from the coffee shop shortly after the blast.
"I was looking down out of my window, at the activities," recalled one witness. "Two kids came in and just ran out and the explosion went out. It really shook the building. People heard it 10 blocks away."
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly characterized the device as a low-level explosive.
Fragments from the blast are being examined at an NYPD lab.
