The leader of the Bronx Democratic Party is celebrating a legal victory today that keeps him in power – for now.
A New York State Supreme Court judge has ruled that a faction seeking to topple Assemblyman Jose Rivera from the powerful party post cannot hold a meeting tonight of the county organization.
The group had sought to convene in Co-Op City to replace Rivera, citing his leadership style and failure to support an African-American candidate for judge in this month's primary.
But Bronx Justice Robert Seewald found the room the group selected was too small. His order came after the county organization sought a restraining order last Friday.
The group seeking Rivera's ouster was meeting this afternoon to strategize.
Rivera has lead Bronx Democrats since 2002.
