The new champion of the seventh annual cannoli eating competition was crowned Friday in dramatic fashion in Little Italy.

The competition featured 10 professional eaters from around the country and is part of the 81st annual Feast of San Gennaro.

Brad Schiullo, a 21-year-old chef at an Italian restaurant, was brought to tears when he received the trophy.

Schiullo ate 20 double cannolis and said the feat took lots of training.

"I ate a lot of cannolis and tried to do good food training, drink about a gallon of water a day,” said Schiullo. “We're all under supervision of a doctor."

The festival salutes the patron saint of Naples and is one of the biggest Italian festivals in the country.

More than one million people are expected to attend the festival, which runs until Sunday, September 21 on Mulberry Street in Little Italy.
