Some young painters are using their art to speak out against gun violence in Brooklyn.

City officials and community leaders were on hand Saturday to unveil a new anti-gun violence mural at Prospect Place and Brooklyn Avenue in Crown Heights.

"They're using art -- a common form of expression in the community -- to tell their peers to put their guns down," said Assemblyman Karim Camara. "What they're also saying is we can't focus our energies on the young people who possess guns in the first place, that they have to pay more attention to how the guns got into our communities in the first place."

"For the young people who walk by we really want to send a message that gun violence should really be avoided," said Head artist Joe Matunis.

"I want them to see that no matter how bad things are things could change and that you should work together with your community to come up with a positive better output," said Mural artist Ralph Cene.

It took 14 artists nearly two months to complete the project which is titled "Peace Out, Peace In."
