Port Authority police are determining where a gunshot victim found late Monday night at LaGuardia Airport was shot.
The agency says a 26-year-old man who was shot once in the chest was found about 11:30 p.m. around a taxi holding area near terminals C and D.
The New York Police Department says the shot man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and is expected to survive.
Sources tell NY1 that investigators are looking into the possibility the man was shot elsewhere and taken to the airport by car.
They also say police are searching for a silver car connected to the incident, but Port Authority has not confirmed that yet.
Cabbies transporting morning travelers told NY1 the lot where the victim was found is usually empty at that time of night, but it could be easily accessed.
"After 12 midnight, there's not that many flights coming in. This lot is practically empty," said cab driver Phil Martin. "The police do not, at that particular time, come in here, and people do have access into the lot at that time. And I am very concerned that someone was found shot here."
"During the day, there's a lot of police presence. So it's fairly safe, I'd say," said cab driver. "There could always be more cops, but that's the way it is. But for the most part, it's safe."
The Port Authority says flights have not been affected by the incident.
