A city man came to the rescue of a baby falcon Monday on the streets of Queens.

Morgan Pitts says he saw a gang of pigeons chasing and pecking at an American Kestrel falcon in Long Island City, and that's when he stepped in.

He says he thinks the falcon was either abandoned by its mother or fell from its nest.

"My hunch is he's probably a youngster because this time of year young birds are flying out of the nest and going out on their own and so it's possible that he's just a teenager gone outside his boundaries and his parents weren't close enough by to take care of him," said Ann Hohenhaus of The Animal Medical Center.

The bird is now in the care of veterinarians at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan.

According to the Audubon Society, the falcons are not commonly seen in the city during the summer.

A wildlife rehabilitator will eventually release the falcon back into the wild.
