Some New Yorkers spent the Fourth of July soaking in the sounds of a jazz legend.

Hundreds of people crowded into the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Corona Saturday to celebrate the date Armstrong considered his birthday.

Historians say the legendary musician was actually born on August 4th. But those who knew him said Armstrong thought of America's birthday as his own.

"No matter where he was, any part of the country, the Fourth of July was his birthday, as far as he was concerned," said Selma Hiraldo of Friends of Louis Armstrong.

"I used to listen to him all the time and to come out here and to find out what he was really about is fantastic," said Louis Armstrong fan Yvonne Lewis.

Nearly 40 years after his death, museum officials say turnouts like this show how much Armstrong is still loved.
