Despite the recent rainstorm, city transit officials say that some newly completed system upgrades have curbed flooding in subway stations and kept service on track.
The $31 million improvements to 10 trouble spots were completed in April. They include raised grates, like the ones seen above at the Hillside Avenue Station in Jamaica, Queens.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials say the picture was taken during a heavy rainstorm on June 18, but shows that the grate prevented flooding.
A spokesperson said the station flooded an average of four times a year, but there have not had any serious problems since the grates were installed.
