More than a million spectators celebrated culture and enjoyed music at the 52nd Puerto Rican Day Parade along Manhattan's Fifth Avenue on Sunday.

The year's theme was "Celebrating Our Music," featuring colorful costumes and music on its floats.

The parade began at 44th Street and ended at 86th Street.

Many onlookers carried large Puerto Rican flags and wore clothing in the flag's colors of red, white and blue.

"Puerto Rican is one, we all are one," said one spectator. "It's the pride of all Puerto Ricans in New York and in the island."

"It shows the dedication to our island," said another. "Nobody understands how proud we are to be from Puerto Rico. Just to show that is an honor."

"This parade means everything," said a third. "It means my culture, my pride, who I am, what I believe in - it's everything to me."

Anchors and reporters from NY1's sister station NY1 Noticias also joined in the festivities with a float of their own.

Local politicians, including State Senator Malcolm Smith, the man at the center of Albany's recent coup, and City Comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate William Thompson were also among the parade's marching dignitaries, who tried to appeal to the Latino voter bloc.

The parade capped a series of city events over the past couple weeks that celebrated Puerto Rican heritage.
