Story Summary:
The Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public hearing on the clean-up of the Gowanus Canal this evening. The EPA estimates that the cost of cleaning up the Gowanus Canal, now a designated Superfund site, could cost between $467 and $504 million. The City of New York could be obligated to pay a substantial amount of the cleanup cost due to years of dumping waste water into the canal.
