One of the New York City Police Department’s most wanted has been caught in North Carolina.

The Rocky Mount Police Department says it assisted NYPD detectives and U.S. marshals in arresting Rasheem Williams, 37, over the weekend.

Police say Williams is responsible for 14 robberies in the subway between January and August.

Williams has a long criminal record and is listed as the ‘most wanted fugitive’ on the NYPD's Crime Stoppers website.

He is now awaiting extradition to New York.

Investigators say Williams either displayed a knife or simulated having a gun before robbing his victims. One victim was injured.

The robberies took place in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx.

Straphangers who spoke to NY1 this morning said they always try to be cautious.

"I stay toward moms and people with kids, especially when there aren't a lot of people on the subway," said one New Yorker. "Sometimes I'll wait to take the next one. But the cops in the subways, they're not watching anything. It's kind of disappointing actually."

"I just look around and make sure it doesn't look like people have knives in their pockets," said another.

Two other suspects, Jamal Williams and Michael Lewis, were also arrested.

Jamal Williams is also on the city's list of the top 100 wanted people. Lewis was arrested on a parole violation.
