Two sibling specialty food shops are making waves in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. NY1's Tara Lynn Wagner filed the following report.

Calling all gourmands! Near the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn, a pair of specialty stores are serving up gourmet treats for metropolitan food lovers: Marlow and Sons and Marlow and Daughters. These sibling shops offer delicacies, but also give shoppers an opportunity to support local farmers and food makers.

According to the Zagat Food Lovers Guide, the "most fun part of shopping" at this "adorable little" grocery shop is that once you're done, you can "sit down for a plate of oysters" in the cafe/wine bar in the back. Surveyors call it a prized "neighborhood resource" for "impressive," "expensive" comestibles from biodynamic dairy products, farmstead cheeses to small-batch honeys, imported oils and vinegars.

Out of a possible 30, Marlow and Sons received 24 for Quality, 23 for Display, 22 for Service and the cost is listed as Expensive.

Marlow and Daughters
95 Broadway, Brooklyn

"Much-hyped" by carnivorous epicureans, this Williamsburg butcher shop combines a retro "mom-and-pop feel" with cutting-edge commitment to "sustainable meats" from local farmers.

"What we're trying to do is connect the idea of the farmer to the person that's purchasing. We're trying, more or less, to be sort of a pass-through in that experience," says Marlow and Daughters co-owner Andrew Tarlow.

The butchers follow a waste-not philosophy that utilizes all parts from trotter to tail.

"We only deal with whole animals," says butcher Adam Danforth. "So we get the entire cow or pig or lamb in, and so off the bat we have access to more aspects of the animal than most butcher shops do that work with box meat."

For homemade sausages or hand-cut beef, pork and poultry, Zagat says Marlow and Daughters is pricey but fits the bill.

Marlow and Daughters received 26 for Quality, 23 for Display, 22 for Service and the cost is listed as Expensive.
