Some of Broadway's finest are wishing Stephen Sondheim a happy birthday.

The musical theater legend was honored Monday at Lincoln Center.

The two-day event marks the composer's 80th birthday and is being held at Alice Tully Hall with the New York Philharmonic.

Emmy and Tony award winner David Hyde Pierce is serving as emcee.

"His contribution like any genius is unique. It has to do with the depth and the richness and the words and the characters in situations that he chooses to dramatize, it's everything," Hyde Pierce said. "And the variety, even though you can always identify a Sondheim show by its complexity, still the difference between Company, Sweeney Todd, Pacific Overtures it's amazing the places he's taken us to."
