Wireless Internet may soon be coming to commuters on Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is asking developers to submit plans on how the service would be installed and operated.
The MTA is also looking to make Grand Central Terminal and Pennsylvania Station wireless, but it is unclear whether the service would be fee-based.
The LIRR waiting room at Penn Station is already equipped with Wi-Fi access.
Transit officials said they do not intend to pay for the service, opting instead to have a third-party company decide whether to charge commuters for the service.
Officials hope to have the service up and running by the end of the year.
