An indictment was unsealed today against 41 people accused of drug trafficking in Washington Heights.
Thirty-four members and associates of the Trinitarios criminal organization, including their alleged leader, were arrested last night and early this morning. The remainder have yet to be caught.
The indictment alleges they sold drugs on at least four blocks in Washington Heights, from West 171st Street to West 174th Street.
Several members of the Trinitarios are also accused of committing acts of violence to protect and expand their operation. Some of the defendants face conspiracy and distribution charges for the sale of marijuana, cocaine and crack cocaine.
According to the Bronx gang unit, eight guns, 20 pounds of marijuana, 50 grams of cocaine, and $50,000 were recovered.
The defendants face between 10 years and life in prison depending on specific charges.
The indictment comes after a two-year joint investigation by the NYPD, the US Attorney's office and several federal agencies.
