Cyrus Vance Jr. has tapped a wide-ranging team to help him make the transition to Manhattan's first new district attorney in 35 years.

The 37-member team will be led by Michael Cherkasky, who chairs the state's Commission on Public Integrity.

The team also includes city Human Rights Commissioner Patricia Gatling, along with experts on wrongful conviction, a noted sex-crimes prosecutor, union officials and a former judge.

Vance says his team will make suggestions about policy, but not day-to-day operations or hiring.

Vance replaces outgoing District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, who has served since 1975.
