A trio of designers started a trend this season at Bryant Park by splitting the cost of one show by three. NY1's Cheryl Wills takes a peak at the collections of Nicholas K, Sergio Davila, and Mara Hoffman, who could make saving green the new black.Nicholas K kicked off this season's group show with something for the boys, and something for the girls.
Her debut at the tents was like a blast from the past, with designs inspired by the 1980's and modern twists that will be sure to turn heads.
"Growing up in the 80's, we had films like 'Mad Max,' 'Blade Runner,' 'Suller Babies,' and it was this whole idea of the future being more of a post-apocalyptic feeling," said the designer.
Miles away in theme, but under the same tent, came Sergio Davila's fall collection, with designs fit for a king and queen.
His collection draws from traditional Spanish influences, in the form of knitwear and cashmere
"I got inspiration from the 19th century when the Spaniards came to America, and the viceroy, the representation of the king of Spain, came to the Americas," explained Davila.
Mara Hoffman took a walk on the wild side with her collection, using vibrant colors, studded capes, and flowing gowns.
"I just went full out on it," she said. "It was really about, like, going wild, because I don't want to be safe right now. It's like everyone is just being safe, safe, safe. I want to stand out and go wild with it."
While the three designers show strikingly different looks, they do share a common philosophy: spending wisely is always in style.
