A survey ranking obesity nationwide found New York to be the 14th leanest, or 37th most, state.
Overall, the country got an F.
According the survey released today, the fattest state is Mississippi, where 32.5 percent of adults are considered obese, and more than 44 percent of children are said to be obese and overweight.
Mississippi is followed by Alabama, West Virginia, Tennessee and South Carolina.
As for the leanest states, Colorado is the leanest state, with only about 19 percent of its population considered obese. Massachusetts was next, followed by Connecticut, Rhode Island and Hawaii.
Experts are calling for a national strategy to fight the obesity problem. They fear treating it will overwhelm the Medicare system.
The survey was conducted by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
